No Friday evening gathering on 24 January
Friday 24 January marks the first day of our major fundraiser during the annual Fryerstown Antique Fair. The old Fryerstown School will be a hive of activity all day, offering delicious lunches (11.30am – 2pm) and afternoon teas (2 – 4pm).
So that we can re-set the room and prepare for a HUGE workload the following day, there will be no community gathering that evening. Back to normal the following week – Friday 31st January.
Delicious lunch and afternoon tea during the Antique Fair
The Fryerstown Antique Fair weekend is a great opportunity to visit the recently refurbished community-run old Fryerstown School. Follow the orange flags up the hill behind the Antique Fair and enjoy the peaceful ambience of the school building and historic surrounds. A country-style cold meats and salads platter lunch with delicious local Sprout bread, cake, tea or coffee and a cold drink will be served daily from Friday 24th until Monday 27th January inclusive from 11.30am until 2pm – all for only $10 per head. From 2pm until 4pm you can enjoy afternoon tea, with brewed coffee or tea and home-made scones or delicious cake for $6 per head. Vegetarian and gluten free options are available.
For those who enjoy a quality coffee, hot chocolate or chai in a relaxed café-style setting, the Hey Presto Espresso coffee cart will be operating on the school verandah from 11.30am, with a share of the takings to be donated to the school.
The Fryerstown Community Reserve Management Committee was formed just over three years ago to manage and oversee the much needed repairs and refurbishment of the school buildings. Now operating as a venue for community use and public hire for functions, music events, art and educational workshops, it is hoped that the lunches will earn enough to landscape the surrounding grounds to provide picnic, play and performance areas.
Free bicycle maintenance and skills workshop this week
On Wednesday evening, 11th December, the Mount Alexander Shire Council are holding a free Bike’n’BBQ workshop at the school from 6pm.
With our proximity to the Great Dividing Trail and many other great cycling options, this is a chance to learn about basic bike maintenance and all sorts of other tips so you feel confident while you’re out and about exploring the great outdoors. Suitable for beginners to serious riders.
Book now and come along to learn some new skills and then socialise over a snag.
