Boutique camping and caravan sites are available in the grounds at the rear of the Fryerstown School. Facilities include modern shower, toilet and hand-washing laundry facilities, outdoor sink, potable water, picnic tables and a fire ring. The sites are not powered however campers have access to power. Camping onsite is suited to experienced hikers and campers who are self-sufficient.
The grounds comprise 10 sites suitable for tents, caravans or camper vehicles – ideal for families and small groups wishing to explore Fryerstown, the Mount Alexander Gold Diggings and the Goldfields Track. The proximity to the Goldfields Track makes it an ideal overnight stop and a base for exploring the flora, fauna and features of the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park.
Camping is short-term only and not suitable for stays of longer than 14 days. The sites are also suitable for onsite accommodation by groups who have hired the school facilities.
The cost is $10 per person per night or $55 per person per week (7 days). A family rate (up to 2 adults and 2 children 5-10 years old) is $30 per night. Children under 5 free. In the instance of one person only for one night there is a minimum charge of $20. Subsequent nights charged at $10 per night. There is also a $20 key bond.
Campers who wish to use the fire ring should bring their own firewood. Alternatively a tub of firewood may be purchased by arrangement when booking. Additional charges, based on duration of stay, apply.
